Una storia di memorie che si intrecciano, quella personale di Patrick Tuttofuoco e quella di Donatella Pellini. Una connessione che affonda le radici nel passato e che ritorna oggi a distanza di quasi ottant’anni con l’allestimento site-specific di WITHIN WITHOUT — il progetto d’artista su carta da parati realizzato da Patrick Tuttofuoco per Wall&decò with CARTEdition*— nello Spazio Pellini di via Morigi in occasione della Milano Design Week 2023.

Il filo conduttore tra le ricerche semiologiche che hanno contraddistinto le processualità di Pellini e di Tuttofuoco è significante vicende o semplici frammenti di vita, pensieri o visioni, sempre inanellati uno di seguito all’altro. Giustapposizioni di percorsi antropologici restituiti in forma di pietre infilate o di catenelle, di lamine sottili circolari. I lignaggi, da entrambe le parti, si incontrano disvelando riferimenti ad opere letterarie o scientifiche.
La curiosità di entrambi gli attori in campo li ha resi onnivori nelle indagini semantiche che li hanno impegnati. Sono raccolte di testi loro stessi, sono quello che hanno letto e restituito per mezzo del loro lavoro. La potenza espressiva di ciascuna collana viene esorbitata iperbolicamente nel suo ingrandimento da parati o parate, parate di dame e cavalieri adornati dei distintivi del rispettivo ordine. Collane come scritti che non presentano il vincolo della consequenzialità, testi destinati ad una lettura irregolare e diversificata. Sono iper- romanzi, quasi come in Ti con zero di Italo Calvino, strutture basate su una rete di storie e personaggi che si intersecano, anche su un solo accadimento, per poi procedere singolarmente, come è accaduto tra Pellini e Tuttofuoco: un vero giardino dei sentieri che si biforcano, per dirla con Borges.

The common thread between the semiological research that has characterized the procedures of Pellini and Tuttofuoco is the meaning of events or simple fragments of life, thoughts or visions, always linked to one another in sequence. Juxtapositions of anthropological routes rendered in the form of threaded stones or chains, of thin circular sheets. The lineage, on both sides, meets by unveiling references to literary or scientific works. The curiosity of both players on the pitch has made them omnivorous in the semantic investigations that have engaged them. They are collections of texts within themselves, they are what they have read and given back by means of their work. The expressive power of each necklace is hyperbolically exaggerated in its magnification by wallpapers or parades, processions of ladies and knights adorned with the badges of their respective orders. Necklaces like writings that do not present the constraints of consequentiality, texts intended for an irregular and diversified reading. They are hyper-novels, almost like Italo Calvino’s T Zero, structures based on a network of intersecting stories and characters, even around a single occurence, to then proceed individually, as happened between Pellini and Tuttofuoco: a real garden of forking paths, to quote Borges. – Marco Tagliafierro
