– Yari Miele

Two artists who usually work with rope-work: Alex Dorici (Lugano 1979) and Yari Miele (Como, 1977), are working in residence at the Casa degli Artisti, and at the same time at the Gottifredi Maffioli rope-works, during the course of summer 2022. Both begin with a drawing, or even a mural (hence synopia), they lay out their symbols in the form of an environmental installation, operating a synaesthetic transposition that alludes to the Metaverse while remaining in the analogue context. From a certain perspective, a hyper-realistic painter is portraying the work of these two artists dedicated to rope, placing them in imaginary scenarios, and is the third artist involved in the exhibition, Stefano Invernizzi (Pavia, 1983).
The working process is of great importance to this operation. Ing Luigi Maffioli and Ing Rossella Maffioli, directors of Gottifredi Maffioli, expressed their respective considerations regarding this experience.

“The world of art has always fascinated me, but it was only when I had the opportunity to see the results of the project curated by Marco Tagliafierro for Giovanardi that I understood what extraordinary potential the collaboration with artists can have for a manufacturing company devoted to innovation, as ours is. Finding ourselves working with two artists such as Alex Dorici and Yari Miele who usually work with ropes as a means of expression simplified the path; providing us with a common language based on the technical knowledge of the material we work with. This helped us to immediately bring out the different points of view on the function and aesthetic value of the ropes we produce; and the most surprising thing is that from the first visits the artists were able to see and enhance aspects that for us, focused only on the technical function of the product, had seemed marginal, even negative. Their investigation of light led us to see our products with a radically new perspective, and motivates us to continue along this research path, convinced that it can lead to interesting developments in the world of design and fashion.”

– Ing. Luigi Maffioli

“A passion for innovation combined with the desire to evolve and always keep moving forward are at the heart of the history of our company. The Arte Impresa project was a concrete expression of this: the encounter with artists such as Alex Dorici and Yari Miele became the beginning of a fascinating and challenging journey that led us to get to know and see our world made of “ropes” with new eyes. The artists, with their requests and requirements, made us imagine our products in a new way, stimulating us to search for breakthrough solutions related to colour and light. The fresh and innovative vision of Alex and Yari helped us to go beyond the set boundaries, allowing us to glimpse developments related, for example, to the world of design, which has always fascinated me. The encounter with the artists was exciting and fun, it was absolutely incredible to see them create a new work with something that is so familiar to us, but which has led to results far beyond what we ever thought possible.”

– Ing. Rossella Mafioli

Likewise, the artists Alex Dorici and Yari Miele also expressed their warm opinion of the experience.

“It was amazing to enter the place where the essential elements for my artistic expression are built, which happened at the meeting with the Gottifredi Maffioli company.
Thanks to this experience I had the opportunity to follow the development and creation of the naval rope that I love to pinpoint as one of my many brushes.”

“When the lights went out, the threads emerged, the soul of the peaks … straight, undulating lines that float in space, like an energy flow … plots of a mysterious, energetic source … like an impalpable third dimension.”

– Yari Miele
