NO MATTER MATTERS per ribadire che in realtà ogni cosa conta!

Conta la creatività, conta la ricerca e conta anche un campo tanto seducente quanto spesso non sufficientemente indagato come quello del gioiello contemporaneo.

O meglio, ci sono luoghi, fiere e realtà che se ne occupano a pieno titolo. Accade a Monaco, a Barcellona, a Tokyo, ma in Italia?

In Italia accade a Milano ad esempio dove Ilaria Ruggiero – curatrice e fondatrice di Adornment Curating Contemporary Art Jewelry –  ha presentato durante la MDW18 il progetto espositivo NO MATTERS MATTERS in cui 14 artisti e designer internazionali hanno offerto uno spaccato delle potenzialità della ricerca di nuovi materiali nel mondo della gioielleria contemporanea.

 

 

Resine, incrostazioni, lavorazioni inusuali ma anche forme inattese, utilizzi imprevisti o veri e propri pezzi di wearable art offrono un banco di prova interessante per capire come si muove la creatività nel rileggere la funzione di un accessorio – il gioiello – da sempre riflesso di epoche, mode, culture.

 

 

Ed è proprio questo a rendere il mondo del gioiello contemporaneo estremamente interessante, la sua capacità di essere aderente a quanto accade qui è ora. È ricerca, è sperimentazione, è avanguardia, è osare l’inatteso, è oltrepassare i confini anche andando in controtendenza sui gusti. Ne è una riprova la mostra CUTTING EDGE presentata per la prima volta a Venezia al Vitraria Gallery in occasione di The Venice Glass Week 2018 e successivamente a New York in un’edizione speciale per la New York Jewelry Week [ cliccate qui per saperne di più! ] che hanno aperto un importante capitolo sul mondo del gioiello in vetro.

 

 

Ma i gusti, come in ogni campo, vanno educati. Ecco allora che la domanda di apertura ritorna centrale: cosa si fa in Italia per dar forma ad un senso critico competente nel mondo del gioiello contemporaneo? esistono eventi, fiere, piattaforme capaci di promuovere questa forma di creatività  offrendole visibilità e un mercato sostenibile? quale il pensiero dei designer, veri protagonisti le discorso?

 

 

Domande che aprono a una voragine di ulteriori domande.

Perché allora non provare a mappare le opinioni di designer, curatori, esperti ma anche retailer, buyers e semplici esteti nel tentativo di dar forma all’anello mancante?

Lo faremo seguendo i progetti di A/dornment, le interviste pubblicate sul blog l’attività di Ilaria  Ruggiero sempre a ridosso di diverse discipline ma concedendoci anche incursioni impreviste nell’arte e negli atelier di artisti e designer attivi in questo favoloso campo d’indagine.

NO MATTER MATTERS to reaffirm that in reality every thing counts!

Creativity counts, research counts but also a field as seductive as that of contemporary jewellery, which is often insufficiently investigated, counts.

Or rather, there are places, fairs and practices that fully deal with it. This is the case in Monaco, in Barcelona, ​​in Tokyo, but what about Italy?

A good example is  Milan where Ilaria Ruggiero – curator and founder of Adornment Curating Contemporary Art Jewellery – presented NO MATTERS MATTERS during the MDW18. An exhibition project in which 14 international artists and designers offered an insight into the potential of research into new materials in the field of contemporary jewellery.

Resins, incrustations, unusual workings but also unexpected shapes, unforeseen uses or pieces of wearable art offer an interesting experiment for understanding how creativity moves in rereading the function of an accessory – the jewel – which has always been a reflection of epochs , fashions, cultures.

And it is precisely this that makes the world of contemporary jewellery extremely interesting, its ability to adhere to what is happening here and now. It is research, it is experimentation, it is avant-garde, it is to dare the unexpected, it is to go beyond the boundaries even bucking the trend of usual tastes. This is also confirmed by CUTTING EDGE — the exhibition presented for the first time in Venice at the Vitraria Gallery on the occasion of The Venice Glass Week 2018 and then in New York in a special edition for New York Jewelry Week [click here to learn more! ] — that opened up to a new important chapter on the world of glass jewellery.

But tastes, as in every field, need to be educated. So here we ask once more the question that opened the post: what happens in Italy to give shape to a competent critical sense of the world of contemporary jewellery? Are there events, fairs, platforms capable of promoting this form of creativity by offering visibility and a sustainable market? What is the opinion of designers, the real protagonists of this topic?

Questions that open up to a chasm of further questions.

So why not try to map the opinions of designers, curators, experts but also of retailers, buyers and mere lovers of beauty in an attempt to shape the missing link?

We will do this by following the projects by Adornment, the interviews published on its blog and Ilaria Ruggiero’s activity always close to different disciplines but also allowing us to pay unexpected visits into the art and ateliers of artists and designers working in this fabulous field of investigation.
