To go deep into Ironically iconic in this context is quite nonsense.

The title of the exhibition co-curated with Ilaria Ruggiero and presented during the Milano Design Week 2017 as well as its claim “unexpected design for expected uses” are clearly enough communicative and direct.

Except for one detail. What we wanted to pointed out with the selection we made was the extraordinary potential of the cross over between function and form, visual experimentation and daily use. Is it possible? What are the boldest results of such a blend?

On this basis, one of the products we most loved was the Super Strong Lamp by Doris Darling.

It is not just because of the product itself – beautifully crafted, smart, fresh – but because of the attitude the behind its production. The designer, a fascinating Austrian “blondie” as beautiful as her alias, is what we call a modern heroine. Positive, perfect between her creative world and her crowded family, Doris caught our attention – and our most devoted friendship – with her simplicity and her vision of a funky design.

Her project is a total concept. It deals not only with lighting design but with a wider idea of creativity. It is made of graphics, photography and contemporary approach.

It is not by chance that we asked her to be our front woman on the invitation card of Ironically Iconic and it is not by chance that we invited her to exhibit at Light Blowing in Venice during the first edition of The Venice Glass Week.

A mascot, a dear friend a talented designer.

That’s what she means to us and that’s why we want to celebrate her with this post and a special selection of images from her most famous photo-shooting taken by Klaus Pichler
