Perché questo nome, Arcipèlago?

Arcipèlago per il simbolo che rappresenta. Per lasciare intendere un legame tra i diversi gesti creativi, che sono differenti e unici ma uniti da una stessa aspirazione: quella di inventare, di scoprire e di ripensare il mondo. Un arcipelago di visioni in un unico insieme. Una geografia dello sguardo.

Artemio: quanto pesano le tue origini nella scelta del nome?

La Grecia e le sue migliaia di isole sono sempre state fonte di un’ispirazione infinita. L’isola in se stessa è affascinante. Dall’Odissea al Conte di Montecristo, l’isola appare spesso come il luogo dell’evasione e del viaggio ma è soprattutto un punto di ancoraggio, dove si torna sempre.
Si viaggia da un’isola all’altra, assaggiando culture diverse e loro radici comuni. Ed è esattamente quello che vogliamo raccontare.

Spazio effimero, ovvero un luogo senza vincoli di programmazione. Dalla moda al design, dall’arte ad altre forme di creatività. Decadono i vincoli temporali e i calendari canonici. Nascono nuove collaborazioni. La creatività migra da una disciplina all’altra. Sarà questa la forma della creatività del futuro?

La creatività, se trattenuta, sa immediatamente di polvere. E oggi più che mai è fondamentale espandersi ed entusiasmarsi insieme. La creazione è diventata ibrida, meticcia, non abbraccia più schemi predefiniti. È importante progettare in un modo più flessibile. L’unione ha sempre fatto la forza e per fortuna la collaborazione è di nuovo al centro di tutto. Formare un branco e unire le forze aiuta ad andare avanti con allegria. Ed è anche bello osservare come le cose si contaminano passando da un’idea all’altra, giustapponendo le discipline, confrontando le conoscenze e rompendo le frontiere stabilite.

Arcipèlago rivendica la fine dell’elitarismo tra le arti. È la democratizzazione della creatività? Frutto di un pensiero o di un’epoca storica?

Sogniamo soprattutto la fine dell’elitarismo nel mondo dell’arte. L’arte è fondamentale, ma non la intendiamo come fine assoluto. L’arte dovrebbe fare parte della nostra vita e non essere percepita come distante o esclusiva.

Ci interessa un approccio leggero e gioioso alla creatività, senza prenderci troppo sul serio.
Inoltre vogliamo evitare di cadere nella gerarchizzazione e opposizione tra arte e artigianato, tra artisti noti e giovani principianti. L’intento è di farsi portavoce della vitalità di un paesaggio artistico molto più ampio e vario di queste categorizzazioni e offrire così allo sguardo la possibilità di estendersi al di là degli schemi conosciuti.
Il nostro desiderio è di aprire le porte a tutti e rendere l’arte accessibile a tutti, senza snobismo.

Charlotte, Artemio: Arcipèlago nasce dalla necessità di dar vita ad uno spazio libero o dalla voglia di dar forma ad un progetto a due?

Entrambe le cose, assolutamente. Ed è fantastico poter mescolare le nostre idee, influenze e abilità per creare un posto in cui raccontare le storie che ci piacciono. Non l’avremmo mai fatto da soli ma insieme e diventato un vero e proprio gioco.

Nel primo progetto si incrociano le strade di amici più o meno lontani.
Tutti dal talento non convenzionale. Cosa accadrà nei futuri capitoli dello spazio?

Abbiamo in mente progetti di mostre di fotografia, di graphic design, di collage, di ceramica e di arte tessile.
Insomma, arti visive sì, ma non solo. Vorremmo che questo divenisse un luogo dove vedere film sull’arte e la natura, dove incontrare marinai, persone innamorate degli alberi, degli squali o che viaggiano in bicicletta, organizzare workshop e week-end dedicati su tematiche particolari… Riteniamo che tutto ciò che ci piace possa coesistere e non ci poniamo alcun limite.

 

 

La prima mostra che visiterete dopo questi mesi?

“Murano in Focus” a Punta Conterie. Un posto meraviglioso che ha, appunto, saputo riunire e offrire al pubblico diversi tipi di creatività, dall’arte all’enogastronomia. In un luogo specialissimo come Murano, anche lei isola di un arcipelago.

Il primo viaggio?

Al mare, ovviamente.

Why this name, Archipelago?

Archipelago for the symbol it represents. To imply a link between various creative gestures, which are different and unique but united by the same aspiration: to invent, discover and rethink the world. An archipelago of visions in a single unity. A geography of outlook.

 Artemio: How important are your origins in the choice of name?

Greece and its thousands of islands have always been a source of infinite inspiration. An island is fascinating in itself. From the Odyssey to the Count of Monte Cristo, the island often appears as a place for evasion and for travel, but it is above all an anchor point, to which one always returns.
You travel from one island to another, tasting different cultures and their common roots. And that’s exactly what we want to recount.

Ephemeral space, that is, a place without scheduling constraints. From fashion to design, from art to other forms of creativity. Time constraints and fixed calendars slip away. New partnerships are born. Creativity migrates from one discipline to another. This will be the shape of future creativity?

Creativity, if held back, immediately becomes dusty. And today more than ever it is vital to expand and become enthusiastic together. Creation has become hybrid, mongrel, it no longer embraces predefined patterns. It’s important to plan in a more flexible way.

Unity has always been strength and luckily co-operation is once again at the centre of everything. Forming a pack and joining forces helps you to carry on joyfully. And it is also nice to observe how things mix together by passing from one idea to another, juxtaposing disciplines, comparing knowledge and breaking established boundaries.

 

 

Archipelago asserts the end of elitism among the arts. Is it the democratisation of creativity? Is it the result of a thought or of an historical epoch?

Above all, we dream of the end of elitism in the world of art. Art is fundamental, but is not to be understood as an end in itself. Art should be part of our lives and not be perceived as distant or exclusive.

We are interested in a light and joyful approach to creativity, without taking ourselves too seriously.
We also want to avoid falling into the hierarchy and opposition between art and crafts, between well-known artists and young beginners. The intent is to convey the vitality of an artistic landscape that is much broader and more varied than these categorisations and thus offer the eye a chance to extend beyond the known patterns.
Our desire is to open the doors to everyone and make art accessible to all, without snobbery.

Charlotte, Artemio: was Archipelago born from the need to create a free space or from the desire to give shape to a project for two?

Both, absolutely. And it is great to be able to mix our ideas, influences and skills to create a space in which to tell the stories that we like. We would never have done it alone but together it became a real game.

In the first project, the paths cross of friends both near and far. All with unconventional talents. What will happen in future episodes of the space?

We have projects in mind for photography, graphic design, collage, ceramic and textile art exhibitions.
In short, visual arts yes, but not those alone. We would like this to become a place to see films on art and nature, to meet sailors, people in love with trees, with sharks or who travel by bicycle, organise workshops and weekends dedicated to particular issues… We believe that everything we love can coexist, and we don’t set any limits.

 

 

The first exhibition you will visit after these months?

“Murano in Focus” at Punta Conterie. A wonderful place that has, indeed, been able to bring together and offer the public different types of creativity, from art to food and wine. In a very special place like Murano, herself island of an archipelago.

The first journey?

To the sea, of course.
